My co-worker, Jenn, brought me cupcakes and dinner on one of the nights we had to stay late for conferences. It was such a nice surprise and it was a great way to end our hectic day.
The night before my birthday was lots of fun. We went over to my sister's house to have a party there, since Jackson was too sick to attend Emily's birthday party or Evan's birthday party. He was SO happy! They had made a special banner and Mom and Dad even brought balloons, so it certainly felt like a party. Jackson and I like really like Red Robin, so we got the food to go and enjoyed quite a feast. Later, the kids had fun playing together and being silly. Carl played a lot of Wii U with Jackson, which they both really liked. Of course, since we were having so much fun, we stayed a bit too late and both boys were SUPER tired and cranky when we left. Thankfully, they both fell asleep quickly once we put them to bed.
My birthday was on Saturday and Evan came running into my room around 7:00 a.m. to wish me a happy birthday and cuddle with me. It was such a fun start to the day! The boys and I played around the house that morning while Carl ran a race and then we watched the U of L game with our friends, Will and Laurel. (It is too bad that the Cards lost, especially on my birthday!) We got a babysitter for that night and Carl and I went out to dinner. I had wanted to go to The Melting Pot, which is my favorite place to eat, but since Carl forgot to make reservations, we ended up at Simply Thai. The food was great and I enjoyed spending time with Carl. Plus, someone surprised us and paid for our meal! How nice was that? It was such a nice treat and I was really touched by the generosity. (Although they asked to be anonymous, we figured out that it was The Jones Family that paid for our meal. I spoke with them earlier in the night and I taught two of their children. They are super sweet!)
