We had our family pictures taken last November. Unfortunately, I am just now getting around to posting them in the blog. Oh well! The pictures turned out great. The photographers were very patient with us, which was nice, since Preston was not all that into having his picture taken. Evan
LOVED the photo shoot and was such a ham. He had a great time and kept
posing and asking to have his picture taken! It was adorable!

Key West - Winter Trip - December 2013 and January 2014
Our trip down to Key West was a little bit tough. We had various delays and poor Preston got motion sickness on the plane and was pretty miserable. Thankfully, the trip went much better after our arrival!
This is the only time Preston enjoyed the trip to Key West. He slept for about 20 minutes. Poor thing!
The first day here was pretty busy with getting unpacked, going to the grocery store, returning the rental car, etc. We did get to go to Higgs Beach for awhile though and Brooke took the kids to the playground. We also swam in the pool and watched the U of L vs. UK game and the U of L bowl game.
Go Cards! Sadly, the Cards lost to UK in the basketball game. We ended the night on a high note though, because they beat Miami in the bowl game!
Evan was so excited to be at the beach, that he jumped in the ocean with his clothes on!
Our next day here had sort of yucky weather and it sprinkled rain a lot of the day. We did not let that spoil our fun though! We went to the harbor to look at the fish and see the boats, saw the cruise ships, etc. After naps, we went to the Key West Wildlife Center. Both Preston and Evan had a great time seeing the different birds and other wildlife. We then went to the pier, where we saw a swimming crab and an eagle ray!
We stopped in the cemetery on the way to the harbor, where we saw several iguanas and the boys enjoyed chasing birds.
While we were at the harbor, a fishing boat came in and there was a man cleaning the fish that were caught. Evan loved seeing all of the tarpon that came to eat!
Preston was not too sure about the pool at first, but he sure liked playing with the cups and a bucket of water!
We saw this white bird at the animal sanctuary, which made Evan happy, since it is favorite bird. =)
They boys liked looking at the turtles in the pond.
We enjoyed walking on the pier and still enjoyed our view, even though it was not a great sunset.
Our third day in Key West began with fishing. Of course, we did not catch anything, but it was super exciting for Evan! We had a lot of fun exploring the tide pools and seeing a beautiful sunset as well. Carl and I also had a night out and ate at one of our favorite restaurants, The Cafe.
Evan was so excited to go fishing! We now have a Florida fishing license and a pole to keep in Key West!
After fishing, we explored the tide pools! It was so much fun, that we also explored the tide pools after nap too!
After looking at the tide pools, we saw the sunset.
Date Night
The next day was New Year's Eve and we spent the morning playing at Higgs Beach. After lunch, the boys napped we then spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the pool. We had a lot of fun taking silly pictures with the water camera. Since it was New Year's Eve, we also had a family celebration and welcomed in the new year with confetti poppers, hats, horns, etc. Carl, Brooke, and I also took turns going out together on Duval Street. It was quite a party! People were throwing beads, there were performers, and of course there were tons of people out celebrating! We were back at the house together before midnight, so we could watch the ball drop in Times Square. It was a pretty spectacular day!
Preston cracked us up at the beach. He would take my camera and point it at people and then tell them to say, "Cheese!" It was HILARIOUS! I am pretty sure he thought he was taking pictures, just like Mommy.
These pictures are SO funny! Brooke and Daddy really had fun playing with the jets!
Duval Street was quite fun, even though we really just walked and saw the sights. I loved this place, where almost everyone was gathered to see the large stiletto and drag queen come down at midnight!
On New Year's Day, we went to the nature preserve and searched the beach for sea glass. We found a lot of sea glass, which included some really interesting and colorful pieces. We came back to the house for more swimming and lunch from Bad Boy Burrito. Both boys took really long naps and once they woke up, we headed to the beach to play and see the sunset, which was GORGEOUS! Later, Carl and I went to The Upper Deck at Louie's Backyard for dinner. We had a great view and the food was really good. I am so glad we went!
Preston enjoyed an ice cream sandwich before we headed out to see the sunset.
We all enjoyed the sunset. As always, it was beautiful. I really liked when the man blew the conch shell as the sun dipped into the ocean. It was a cool way to start the new year!
Preston enjoyed looking at the boats with Daddy.
My Boys - I love them SO much!
We had a beautiful sunset to welcome in the new year!
We loved our night night at The Upper Deck. It was gorgeous and the food was so yummy!
On Thursday, Evan and Daddy went kayaking! They saw all sorts of cool stuff! Evan really liked the lion fish, jelly fish, sea stars, crabs, snails, and much more! They both had a ball! Later, we all went to Mallory Square, where we saw two new acts! Our favorite was the pig that could do tricks! He was so cute!
Evan LOVED kayaking!
We loved the pig act! She was adorable and could jump through hoops!
Both boys enjoyed the shows!
Blue has his own show now! He can do all sorts of tricks, including juggling fire while riding a tall unicycle. Pretty impressive!
We had take out for dinner after the shows and then we had a dance party! Evan LOVES to dance and be silly!
Friday morning was cool and cloudy, so Brooke, Evan and Daddy did not get to see the sunrise that they had hoped for. They did get to see a manatee though, which was even better! We spent the morning at the park and then at the botanical garden. Later, we went to the Florida Key Eco-Discovery Center and Fort Zachary Taylor, which was a lot of fun for everyone! Later, Carl and I headed out for a sunset sail, which was really chilly, but loads of fun.
The manatee is sort of hard to see in these pictures, but it is there!
There is nothing too exciting about this picture of the birds on the beach, but I took it on the way to the park to remind me how much both boys love the birds in Key West. (While they LOVE to look at them, both boys also really like chasing them too!)
We love the botanical gardens and we visit each time we go to Key West. This time there was a sculpture exhibit in the garden, which was really interesting. Even when there isn't something like a special exhibit, it seems like I always see something new!
The boys enjoyed looking out to see the ocean and the beach.
Preston had fun exploring the garden with Daddy.
I don't usually take too many pictures of the plants, but these seemed so interesting and pretty!
I adore this picture of Evan. He is in one of his favorite spots in the garden and he requested to have his picture taken. He looks so happy!
As we walked to Fort Zachary Taylor and the Eco-Discovery Center, Evan insisted on getting his picture taken here with Brooke. How funny!
The Eco-Discovery Center was pretty cool. Both boys really liked the aquariums and the interactive exhibits.
We all liked exploring the fort. We saw some gorgeous views of the ocean and saw LOTS iguanas and several birds.
The boys thought the cannon was super cool!
Poor Preston was SO tired from our exciting morning, that he fell asleep on the way home. I can't remember the last time he fell asleep while I was holding him! It was really hard to carry him, but I loved having him snuggled up to me!
Although it was breezy and a bit chilly, we loved our sunset sail!
The next day was pretty stinky, it rained ALL day. I don't mean sprinkled either, it POURED! We did take a taxi to and from the aquarium, which was pretty fun, but the rest of the day we were cooped up in the house, which was really not fun for the boys. We did manage to have some fun with dance parties though! (I should also add that we also found out that our heater at home went out AND a pipe sprung a leak. This definitely added to the stress of the day. We were grateful for a good house sitter and a friend that went over to turn off the water and fix the heat! We were grateful that things were taken care of, even though we were so far from home.)
This day was so nutty, so of course, we forgot the camera. We did get a few pictures on our phones though. Evan LOVED the touch pool and spent a lot of time there playing with the creatures. Preston loved everything and ran all over the place! He even liked going to the outdoor exhibits, even though it was raining! Preston really liked the eel and kept opening and closing his mouth, just like the eel! It was adorable!
Brooke and I ventured off to the dessert restaurant, Better than Sex in the POURING rain. We had quite an adventure trying to get there and back, but it was worth it. The desserts were SO good!
On our last day in Key West, we had beautiful weather, which was a great surprise, since the weather forecasters were calling for more rain. We spent the morning at Casa Marina, where we playing in the ocean and the pool. We went home for lunch and while we waited for it to be delivered, we played in pool. While the boys napped, I worked on cleaning up the house and Carl went to get the rental car for our trip back up to Fort Lauderdale. Once everyone was up, we headed out to White Street Pier, where we looked for wildlife and saw the sunset. We ended the night with a delicious dinner at Salute followed by one last swim in the pool. What a great ending to a wonderful trip!
Preston cracked us up by running EVERYWHERE during the trip. Here is is running with his arms flailing at Casa Marina. He also really liked to run and play on the pier. Of course, the pier had other fun things to do, like go up and down the curb a million times!
This was actually taken later in the day, but it fits well here!
Evan enjoyed jumping in the big waves!
I think Preston will be a big nature guy, just like Evan. He enjoyed looking off of the pier at the fish and crabs.
Preston was a BIG fan of the pool! He really liked when Daddy would throw him up in the air. He also liked jumping in the pool.
Evan liked the pool too and it was NEVER too cold for him!
On our last night, we had fun going to the pier and taking lots of pictures, seeing the sunset and looking for wildlife.
Evan saw this fisherman several times while we were in Key West. Of course, the man loved Evan. When he caught a shark while we were there, he let Evan get a good look and even let him carefully touch the shark before he threw him back!
Our Final Sunset

Preston was very interested in this pelican, but the little stinker was NOT interested in him and hissed at him! Thankfully, Preston was not a bit scared!

New Year's Eve was so fun! We all had fun, even Preston, who is not smiling in ANY of the pictures I took that night. Oh well! He did have fun wearing his party hat, playing with the leis and helping us with the poppers.
Duval Street was quite fun, even though we really just walked and saw the sights. I loved this place, where almost everyone was gathered to see the large stiletto and drag queen come down at midnight!
