Preston's First Haircut
Preston got his first haircut this week! Actually, it was really just a trim. He just needed some of his really long pieces of hair trimmed, so that they would stop sticking up! He looks extra handsome with his haircut and he was REALLY well-behaved during the haircut. (He sat on Daddy's lap and happily played with a comb the whole time! We are hoping that this behavior continues and he does not become afraid of haircuts, like poor Evan did!)

Valentine's Day 2013
Evan's preschool Valentine's Day party was on Wednesday and since I had to work, Daddy got to attend the party! (I was sad that I did not get to go.) Evan had fun during the performance and was a great performer! Afterward, he had a party in his classroom and exchanged Valentine's Day cards with his friends. (Evan was all about the Valentine's Day cards this year! He made them for me, Daddy, and Preston and Evan made some special ones to mail to Bonnie Mom and Levi!)
Thursday was Valentine's Day and we celebrated at home with a heart shaped pizza and a s'more dessert pizza. Preston and Evan each got a special gift and we spent most of the night playing together. It was a lot of fun!
On Saturday, Grammy and Granddaddy came to play with the boys and Carl and I went out to dinner. Sadly, the dinner was not so good, but we had fun on our date anyway!
Evan enjoyed his preschool party. He really liked all of his special cards and treats. (I am AMAZED by all of the treats that come with the cards! WOW!)

Evan's 5th Birthday
Evan had lots of birthday celebrations this year! We started off the week by celebrating his birthday with Grammy and Granddaddy. (They were going to be out of town for two weeks and miss his birthday, so they celebrated with him before they left.) After opening presents, we went to eat at Los Aztecas, which is one of Evan's favorite places to eat. He had lots of fun until the end, when they sang to him and surprised him with whipped cream in his face. Poor Evan cried. Thankfully, Daddy cheered him up quickly!
On Wednesday, Preston and I visited Evan at school to help him celebrate his birthday with his preschool friends. (Evan was SO excited to have us there and we were thrilled to be there! It was the first time I have EVER gotten to go to preschool to celebrate Evan's birthday with his friends. Although Aunt Heather always does a great job filling in for me, I was SO happy that I got to go help Evan celebrate!) At Evan's request, Preston and I brought vanilla ice cream to share. We enjoyed singing to Evan, sharing a yummy treat, and dancing to a special birthday song. How fun!
Evan's actual birthday was on Friday, which was also Muffins with Mom at his preschool. It was a really special day and a great way to spend some extra special time with Evan on his birthday. I enjoyed the muffins that Evan and his friends made, as well as hearing the special songs that Evan and his classmates sang. I think Evan's favorite part was the end, when it was time to dance! (That boy LOVES to dance!)
Later in the afternoon, Daddy came home early and Evan opened his gifts. He really liked all of his presents, but the Star Wars Lego ships were his favorite. He and Daddy spent quite awhile putting the ships together, which was fun for both of them. Later, we are dinner at the club, where Evan got a HUGE bowl of ice cream for dessert!
Evan's Star Wars themed birthday party was held on Saturday evening and it was lots of fun for Evan and his friends. The Congleton's came to celebrate, as well as The Amshoffs, The Nickels, and Bonnie Mom and Grandpa. Evan and his friends enjoyed playing with his new toys, as well as eating pizza and cake.
Evan was happy that Grammy and Granddaddy came to help him celebrate his birthday.
Preston had fun eating his graham crackers, while the rest of us enjoyed our Mexican food.
After Daddy cheered him up, Evan was happy to pose for a picture. (Note: We will NEVER have anyone sing to us for a birthday celebration at a restaurant again. We learned our lesson!)

Our New Furry Family Member
We have all been incredibly lonely without Charlie, so we decided to get another dog. Last weekend we went to Woodstock Animal Foundation and found a sweet little puppy named Johnny. He seemed to bond with us quickly and was so sweet! He gave all of us big, wet kisses when we held him. We filled out the adoption papers and went home, where we anxiously awaited a call to see if we were selected to adopt the puppy. The next afternoon we were approved to adopt Johnny, so we rushed to go pick him up at Pet Smart. Everyone was excited when we got home, especially Parker, who wagged his tail when we introduced him to his new buddy. We decided to call our new puppy Patch. It seems perfect for a dog that looks like he has an "X" on his chest like a pirate treasure map!
Patch is adjusting well to his new home. He is playful, but settles down easily. He loves to play with Parker and to discover new things outside. He also enjoys being held, which is great, because we love to hold him!

Snow!
We were very excited to get some snow last week! It only snowed once last year and it was a very small amount that quickly melted. Evan was THRILLED to get a few inches of snow that has stuck around for several days. He has played out in the snow most every day! He built a small snowman and a really cool U of L cardinal with Daddy, as well as played with his trucks in the snow.
This snow was Preston's very first snow! While he was not to thrilled to be placed on the sled to go for a ride, he enjoyed looking at the snow and being held while he watched Evan and Daddy play.
We were so excited to see the snow!
Evan could not wait to get outside and play!
Since it was Preston's first time to see the snow, I took his picture while we were on the way to the van. He liked seeing the snow!

Christmas Time
Wow! This holiday season has been busy to say the least! We have visited Lights Under Louisville, attended Evan's Christmas play at preschool, attend a cookie party at The Williams' home, AND celebrated Christmas with the Nickel family, the Keeling family, the Koontz family, and the Swann family. Plus, we celebrated Christmas on Christmas day at our house! It has been a lot of fun and our sweet boys have had a great time being with wonderful friends and family. We are so grateful!
Both boys liked the Christmas tree this year. Here are some pictures of the boys right after we set up the tree and decorated the house.
Evan LOVED Lights Under Louisville this year, as did Carl and I. Preston had fun too, but he just chewed his fingers and occasionally looked out the window.
Evan had a great time celebrating Christmas at preschool. One day he came home dressed as 'Evan the Red Nosed Reindeer!"
Evan was a wonderful shepherd in the Christmas play. (I could not go, because it was my day to work. Thankfully, just about everyone else could attend the play. Bonnie Mom took some good pictures for me!)
Evan and Caleb ate almost ALL of the donut holes!! (Not really, but they both had a lot!)
Aunt Heather brought the kids over for lunch and a present exchange, which was lots of fun. All of the kids had fun playing together, including Preston. It was a realy nice morning/afternoon. Here is a picture of Preston playing with his very first Christmas gift. Obviously, he loved it! I did try to take a picture of all five kids together, but after several attempts and no pictures where everyone was looking the same way, happy, etc. I gave up! We did have lots of fun though!
We had a great time celebrating with the Keeling family and the Koontz family, but sadly, I forgot my camera at each event. I have no pictures of the Keeling family gathering, but it was full of good food and fun with great people. Most everyone at the party was seeing Preston for the first time, so everyone wanted to talk to him or hold him. He is so easy-going and went to anyone that wanted to hold him and was in such a good mood! Evan had fun playing with all of the kids and opening presents. Carl and I thought the best part was getting to see Aunt Bettie lead the kids' band in Christmas carols! No one would have ever thought that kazoos and other Dollar store instruments could be so cute, but the kids pulled it off! What a hoot!
Here is a picture of Caroline and Preston from the Koontz family Christmas celebration. (I hope to get more once Bill posts them!) Preston and Caroline had fun playing together. It was the first time they could really interact and it was so cute to watch the two of them together. I bet they will be great friends someday and I also bet that Evan will lead them on some great adventures!
On Christmas Eve, Carl, Evan, Preston, and I went to church. There was a great children's service this year, which was short and PERFECT for small kids. Afterwards, we went to the cemetery to place flowers for my grandmother and grandfather, as well as in honor of all of Carl's grandparents and my mom's parents. Later, we met up with my parents and exchanged gifts and ate Chinese food. It was a laid-back and fun evening. Once the festivities were over, we went back home to wait for Santa!
